Project Description
The project site is located in the heart of Duhok, in Kurdistan region of Iraq. The university aims to be a leading center of academic excellence and research. The main building has a total floor area of approximately 30,000 sq.m. and can accommodate 3,000 students. GSA’s scope of work included design of key features such as entry sequence, central round about, central linear garden, sunken courts, drop-off plaza and welcome plaza in front of the main building. The design created an expression that combined classical building architectural elements with traditional Islamic patterns in order to merge two cultures for this international hub for academic excellence. Islamic landscape architecture styles influenced the design of landscape elements such as water features and paving patterns. Planting designs included drought tolerant native plant species.
